The Importance of Torquemaster Plus Springs

Torquemaster Plus Springs should push innovation.

If you ask any garage door contractor about the Wayne Dalton Torquemaster Plus springs system, most will snicker or cuss about how they are the worst springs to put on a garage door.

Yet, what most of my garage door contractors fail to understand is that the Torquemaster Plus spring system has pushed innovation in the garage door industry. When Wayne Dalton introduced their 9100 model garage door they envisioned creating an ecosystem along with their proprietary spring design. Builders began to see the potential of a seamless door installation along with a simple spring system that did not require the use of torsion winding bars. The mere idea of saving a technician's shoulder cuff was another benefit installing the Torquemaster Plus spring system. Yet still, dealer installers will not only shun the Torquemaster Plus springs but go out of their way to convert these Wayne Dalton springs at all cost. So why so much hate?

Ultimately, dealers are not willing to change. The hate directed towards the Torquemaster Plus springs is the industry's way of not wanting to innovate. In fact, there has not been another type of garage door spring to break through the industry offering homeowners an alternative option for a spring repair. Now it is true this Wayne Dalton spring system was not designed to work for all garage door brands or weights. But that simply supports the out-of-box thinking Wayne Dalton has implemented with their 9000 model series.

Additionally, this spring system has been installed in homes throughout the entire US territory. Thus, homeowners who are also “do-it-yourselfer's” have a keen desire to do this type of repair to their garage door in order to save time and money. I don’t blame them. The process is easy for any novice or experienced handy person. As a matter of fact, I would have no problem encouraging a homeowner to replace their Torquemaster Plus spring on their own. Unfortunately I can’t say the same about a garage door torsion spring replacement.
